There was plenty of work being done to restore parts while the body was undergoing restoration. Here's some of the projects I was taking care of on those cool winter nights.
|
||||||||||||||
I took the heater box apart and cleaned, repainted and replaced all necessary parts. I also installed a new blower motor, heater core and plenum. Tthen everything was wrapped in shrink-wrap for storage until installation
As you have seen, we installed a GT underdash harness so I could run the optional 140 mph speedometer and 8 grand tach. Meanwhile I had been collecting the hard to find (and expensive) gauge components and special backing plate. Once I had all the necessary parts including new lenses, I put it all together . I carefully detailed the gauge needles and also installed a modern quartz movement in the original clock. All bulbs were replaced, as was the constant voltage regulator.

The backing plate for the tach dash is different from the standard 1967 cluster. If you choose to do this upgrade, you will have to hunt one down along with the gauges.

The project car did not originally come with a rear fold down. It's a nice option for any fastback. Metro had a bunch of old folddowns in varying degrees of condition.
I took the best pieces I could find from 3 different setups, then completely stripped and refinished them. Meanwhile I had the trim all re-chromed. Today you can buy that chrome off the shelf, new.
All windows were disassembled, then pieces were either rechromed or if stainless, were polished. New seals were used for reassembly. Everything was better than new when completed.
Tim and I used Eastwood's 3 step process on the hardware to replicate Cadmium plating and a quality look to the finish (even though most of it is hidden in the doors).
The car was being completely
wired.
A '67 GT harness was replacing the original since we would be running the optional 8 grand tach with a 140 speedometer. Most of the wiring harnesses were new. If not, they were thoroughly cleaned and inspected. Simultaneously we were wiring fro a Custom Autosound System that included multiple speakers and a 6 CD changer. |
