At the front of the car we found a big cut in the door frame that had been filled with Bondo. We theorized it had been cut to help relieve pressure when straightening the car after the wreck it had experienced.
Here you can see it's been fixed. Also part of the cowl has been opened to check rust damage. We think after inspecting we can replace them from underneath while still on the rotisserie without having to remove the entire cowl.
Working our way around the front end. Replacing battery apron, radiator core support, etc..

While we were welding, we added a lower shock tower strengthening kit. This really beefs up the strength of the towers in preparation for the high performance motor that we'll be sitting in the engine compartment. Note we also fixed the ugly gash in the front panel. The picture on the right is the same shock tower strengthening pieces viewed from the other side. For more information on the kit used and where to get it, click here.

This is the right hand side of the dash next to the glove box. Obviously water had been leaking from around the windshield causing more cancer.
We cut a replacement piece from a 67 parts car and welded it in.
|
||||||||||||||
Same thing for the hood hinge mounting areas, First cut them out ....then weld in the replacement pieces after very careful measurement.

Now we go to working fixing the cowl "hats" from underneath. That saved us a lot of labor removing the cowls.
Inside shot of the replaced floor pans.
Now we add the seat risers and seam seal the entire interior compartment.
|

Before we remove from the rotisserie, Tim details the undercarriage using red oxide and applying undercoat in the same places it was originally applied at the factory.
A big day for the 67. We used an old rear axle and tires and a cradle at the front. This makes it easy to roll around during the next paint.
Used a bungee to secure the doors so they don't fly open during transit.
Now we're off the Auto Select in Fayetteville, Ga., who have been selected for the final body prep and paint. These guys love doing vintage paint work and I've seen enough examples of their work to be confident in their dedication and professionalism.
