MUSTANG BUYERS GUIDE |

This was to be the inaugural show of the newly detailed 68 Shelby GT500 KR that had been purchased by Jim Mango of Frisco, Texas. When he purchased the vehicle Jim commissioned Metro Muscle Cars to fully concours detail the car. His challenge was to have it all done in 30 days in order to make this particular show….not an easy feat! Tim had spent nights/days and weekends personally managing and performing much of the work and that's a whole separate story that will be on the site soon. Long story short, Tim did a great job and we were ready by the deadline.
|
|
Jim had the car picked up at our facility in Atlanta and transported to Sanderson Sales in Farmers Branch, Texas, (you probably recall that Sanderson are marketing the Eleanor 500GT continuation cars). Being a part of getting the car to its new owner in Dallas was satisfying, since that's where the car was originally delivered when new. It just seemed like an ironically appropriate homecoming for this beautiful Pony.
Tim and I had scheduled to arrive in the Dallas area on Thursday.
This allowed us Friday to work on the car at the Sanderson facility and
get it prepped for the show on Saturday. We also were going to be
at the show to meet the car and perform final detail.
Having the opportunity to personally view the Eleanor assembly line was a thrill in and of itself and a wonderful side benefit to attending the Shelby show where we saw some beautiful cars and met some wonderful people. |

I was a little nervous about the weather coming into Dallas on Thursday.
There were some torrential downpours that continued Friday. This was a
3 day event with track time involved on Thursday and Friday, which unfortunately
had some impacts on those events for the participants.
Tim and I were staying at the show host Hilton in Arlington, Tx and headed out from there on Friday morning to go prep the “Yellow Rose” (as christened by the Mango family) over in Farmer's Branch. |

The new facility housing
Sanderson Sales and Unique Performance (who build the Eleanor)
is beautiful. First we walked into the showroom and gasped at all the beautiful hardware. |
|
Then we were led back to the assembly facility where we gasped a second time. To stand in the middle of an Eleanor production line was not only a unique experience but also a real adrenaline rush. During the visit Steve Sanderson told us of the upcoming ‘grand opening’ a month later and right then I resolved I would be back. We will include photos featuring that event and the assembly facility in a future write up.
Tim and I took care of some last minute details on the “Yellow Rose”, but it was hard to concentrate on the job at hand in the midst of such an awesome operation. To say we were impressed with everything we saw would be conservative.

Our concerns about the weather left with Saturday's dawn. Right on cue Mother Nature served up a beautiful sunny day and plenty of Shelby/Cobra/Mustang hardware started pulling into the show area..
The reason for our visit showed up bright and early on the Sanderson trailer along with a display GT 500 E. I told Steve I didn't know which I liked best, the big beautiful brand spanking new double-decker trailer rig or the two cars inside it. One thing's for sure this was a total package you wouldn't mind seeing under the Christmas tree!!

Once the Shelby was in position Tim and I went to work on final detailing.
Jim Mango was busy prepping another car from his collection, this beautiful if not stunning 40th Anniversary Continuation Series AC Cobra nicknamed “The Silver Bullet”.
That's Jim on the right, you won't find a nicer guy.

This show attracted some fine Shelby examples
Here's a few more, unfortunately we don't have room for all the nice cars we saw.

awards ceremony. They make a fine pair and both run as good as they look. |
|
During the awards ceremony Jim was up and down like a jack in the box. The “Yellow Rose” took a class winner trophy. The “Silver Bullet” took a class award and a best of show award. Unfortunately the glass trophies don't show too well in this photo but they were extremely nice…..and Jim had his hands full trying to carry them all!
It was time to load and go, but the day had been a great one. The Texas Shelby Nationals were a lot of fun, put on by a great group of people that we enjoyed meeting and talking with. We both appreciated the hospitality we received and the quality of the vehicles we saw. It was a fine time!
